Online Healthcare Degree Tips

Completing an online healthcare degree can be a bit more challenging than other online degree programs because most healthcare certifications require a certain amount of hands-on experience, usually gained through clinicals and demonstrations.

While there are online programs that can assist you in completing your Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BSN), most RN programs require face-to-face instruction time. A popular course of study for students is to complete the RN degree at a community college or local university and then continue their education by completing a BSN degree online.

A BSN, or online nursing degree, is a more theoretical look at the field of nursing and is often pursued by veteran nurses looking to step their career up to the next level. Often, completing an online RN to BSN degree program can be your gateway to a promotion or management position.

There is a number of online RN to BSN completer programs available, but they require the student to have already completed a number of requirements in their associate degree program as well as be certified as a registered nurse.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, registered nurses earned a median annual salary of about $48,000 in 2002. With overtime incentives and bonuses for qualified nurses, some BSN graduates can expect to earn as much as $70,000 per year within a few years after graduation.

Aside from completing an online nursing degree, there are a variety of other healthcare courses one can pursue, including CPR training, nutrition, and pharmaceutical studies.

Most healthcare jobs require workers to be certified in CPR. Online classes can help with the completion of course requirements and help prepare you for the certification exam. Often times, this certification needs to be renewed annually, and many online healthcare programs offer refresher courses for such needs. Do research to ensure that the online program complies with American Red Cross requirements.

An online nutrition degree is another field of in the healthcare industry that students can break into. While studying for an online nutrition degree, students can take classes in sports nutrition, dietary management or dietetics. Students can even further their education with an online Masters degree in nutrition, opening doors to nutrition and fitness consulting. Every state requires different levels of certification and education, so do your research to make sure the online programs you enroll in meet the specific requirements for your state.

Like an RN degree, a certain amount of hours of hands-on experience is needed to become a pharmacist. A number of online courses are offered to help complete these requirements, or help those who already hold pharmacy degrees to brush up on their skills.

Advanced pharmaceutical degree can now also be earned online. Online programs may include coursework such as pharmacy foundations, care for patients with specific ailments, or other related pharmaceutical issues. The online pharmacy degree will take some time to complete, so be prepared for your online pharmacy degree to be a three or four year program.
